Al Zubair Photography Competition launched and Accepting Entries •open to all photographers over 18 years of age

Please read the rules of the competition before entering your photographs into the Al Zubair Photography Competition. By entering the competition, you(the participant) understand, acknowledge and fully, irrevocably and unconditionally agree to the following rules:

Term:

The Al Zubair Photography Competition commences on 23rd January. Submissions will be accepted from 00:01 on 23rd January until 23:59 31st March, Muscat local time. Submissions made after this deadline will not be accepted.

Who may enter:

Those who are 18 years old or older at the date of submission are eligible to enter. Participants who do not meet the age requirement will be disqualified without further notice.

Your photos:

You may only enter one (1) photograph into the competition. Any additionally submitted photos, from the same candidate, will be disqualified from the competition.

Submitted Photo must be in JPEG format, with high quality and resolution, of a minimum 5 MB in size, the minimum of the longest edge should be no less than 2000 pixel and the quality no less than 300 dpi to be suitable for publication.

You are kindly requested to upload the original Photo(s) (RAW) or the Photo(s) without any editing on the time of submitting the Photo(s) to the Competition.

Black and white photographs are permitted.

All submitted Photo(s)/Video(s) must not contain any tag(s), signature(s), initial(s), frame, border(s), logo(s) or any other references and/or marks added by the Participant.

We do not accept digitally or otherwise enhanced or altered photos. Minor adjustments, including spotting, dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast and slight color adjustment or the digital equivalents are acceptable, provided that such editing does not affect the authenticity of the photograph. If the judges determine that a photographer has altered his or her photo, they reserve the right to disqualify it.

Photographs that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content, including nudity, violence and/or any other contents deemed to be contrary to Oman’s religious, cultural and/or public morals traditions and practices will be disqualified.

Photographs that have won any previous award(s), and/or Photographs that have been previously used, or are intended for use, for any kind of commercial purposes, must not be submitted. Any Photographs submitted in contrary to the foregoing will be automatically and without further notice disqualified from the entire Competition.

Judging:

Photo entries will be judged based on creativity, quality, originality, and responsiveness to the prompt and overall impact.

We will select 10 finalists, and of those, we will announce a first, second and third place winner.

We will notify finalists and winners via the contact information provided at the time of entry. Anyone who fails to respond to the notification within five business days may be disqualified.

Please do not contact us about the status of entries or judging.

The competition organisers reserve the right to substitute or modify the judging panel at any time and for any reason. Judges have the right to withdraw without advance notice in the event of extenuating circumstances beyond their control. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges in relation to that decision.

The finalists will be notified of their status in April 2019 and will appear on our website.

Meet the Judges

H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthi

H.E. Eng. Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthi is Chairman of Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) and Al Mouj, Muscat. He previously served as Undersecretary for Heritage Affairs at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Chairman of Muscat Municipality and Chairman of the Municipal Council of Muscat. H.E. Eng. Al Harthi currently also serves as an advisor at the Supreme Council for Planning. In 2010, he received the Oman Civil Order from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

HE Eng. Al Harthi graduated with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture, and is considered one of the pioneers in the development of Omani architecture.

Victor Romero

Victor Romero shoots striking architecture, interior, travel and tourism photographs worldwide. With over 20 years of experience, Romero holds 49 international awards and accolades in photography, such as IPA, PX3, Lux, Graphis and One Eyeland. He has also been awarded Lurzer’s Archive’s ‘200 Best Ad Photographers Worldwide’ post for eight consecutive years in the UAE. Romero has been published in more than 24 books, including Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman (2016), Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (2011), and a book on the venue of the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan (2015).

Catalin Marin

Catalin Marin is a Dubai-based photographer known for capturing captivating architecture, hospitality and interiors, portraits and lifestyle images. Marin teaches photography around the region and Nikon Middle East ambassador and teaches photography. His work has been featured by Nikon, BBC Travel, Lonely Planet Middle East, National Geographic, Time Out, Mondo*ARC and Geo Magazine. Marin has worked closely with clients such as Starwood, Samsung, Ericsson, Kempinski, Grand Hyatt, Virgin Australia and Emirates.

Henry Dallal

Henry Dallal is a renowned professional photographer, who has been honoured with portrait commissions of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and other world leaders. He is known for specialising in landscape photography and capturing the equine world. Dallal has had his work exhibited at Naples Museum of Art, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Windsor Castle, Balmoral Castle, Blenheim Palace and Messums Wiltshire.

Khamis Ali Al Moharbi

Khamis Ali Al Moharbi founded the first photography group at the
Cultural Club in 1988, and became a member of the Photographic Society of Oman
(PSO) back in 1993. Al Moharbi has participated in several exhibitions at PSO
and has held 12 solo exhibitions in Oman and abroad. He has received multiple
local and international awards through his participation with PSO, and has
taken part in 6 exhibitions and conferences organised by the International
Federation for Photographic Art.

Al Moharbi has had his work published in photography fine art books.
His first book was published in 2010 and documented Oman’s unique natural
beauty, while his second book, published in 2013, captured the essence of the
people of Oman. His work has also been published in books about Oman, including
one exploring Oman’s heritage, culture and nature by a Spanish publication in
2012. Al Moharbi has contributed 120 photographs to the Oman Encyclopedia, and
the Mango Tree Encyclopedia which was launched in 2016.
